LAKE SAWYER COMMUNITY CLUB

MINUTES

MAY 12, 1999

The meeting was called to order at 7:45 PM. Present were David, Bob, Janie, Sue, Ulla, Al and Sam. Absent were Rick and Pam.

Minutes from April were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was presented. We received information from the department of Assessment to apply for reduced tax status. We have received a large water bill. The water department said to check for leaks. Bob will check out the water meter. Claudette is paying $30/month for the phone. Ulla has a copy of the insurance statement. We have an account at the Do It with a credit. Ulla will request a check.

4th of July: Janie Edelman reported that she has volunteers in place for all the activities. The fireworks contract is coming. We spent $3700 last year on fireworks. They will be staged this year at the Edelmans. The theme is Millennium Memories. There will be three prizes for the boat parade. We discussed T-shirts for the fun run…perhaps changing the logo. Al asked if we needed solicitor’s permits to collect money for the 4th of July.

Adopt a Road is scheduled for 5/22 at 9:30 am.

A work party will be scheduled for June 5 at 9 am to clean the clubhouse and grounds.

The Welcome Wagon committee is working on packets for new people in the community. We decided to forgo the idea of distributing packets to everyone and just concentrate on new people.

Sam presented information on ordinance 664, which was approved. He made copies, which will be distributed with 4th of July solicitations. The ordinance will be put on the website.

The block party originally scheduled for June 5 has been cancelled and the first party will be held in August at the Edelmans and the second in September at the Peters.

Lease negotiations: We will invite Annalise to the June meeting to discuss the clubhouse rentals and how much use the clubhouse has had over the past few years. Expenses from rentals vs. income was discussed as follows:

1996 $7600 income $8300 expenses including maintenance

1997 $8000 income $9900 expenses

1998 $7100 income $9400 expenses

The lease has not yet been signed.

Old Business: Bob was going to check out pricing on dock lettering.

New Business: Janie will take minutes at next month’s meeting. Ulla suggested getting a representative from US West for the next annual meeting. Al Hermann suggested that the board look into the possibility of selling the clubhouse. When the clubhouse was first built, it was in continuous use; but is used so infrequently now, that we may be better off to sell the property, put the money in a trust and pay for the 4th of July out of the interest accrued. The question was brought up as to whether we would have to pay capital gains on the sale. Ulla was going to check with Chuck. Pam is doing a market analysis on the building. It was suggested that Dave contact some past presidents of the Community Club for input. We discussed putting a provision in the MVSB lease in the event of a sale of the building. Sam suggested coming up with hard costs of projected maintenance issues.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 PM.
