LSCC Minutes for Board Meeting
November 14, 2001

In attendance: Board members Robert Schueler, Annette Thompson, Steve Garvich, Orville Peterson, Julie Geiger, and Bob Rothschilds.  Guests were Bob Edelman and Bart Selz.
  • Treasurers report was read by Julie Geiger.  It was reported that LSCC has 150 paid members, a rise from 116 in 2000.
Old Business
  • Steve asked for feedback about the BD Election Forum.  It was agreed that it was a valuable activity for our club to sponsor for the community.  Some suggestions for possible future forums are: define the format to be used, accept only questions from the floor from residents of BD, alternate candidates’ order during the question/answer period, schedule the event earlier.
  • The Lake Sawyer news is to be included in the BD newsletter on a trial basis starting with the Dec. printing.  News needs to be in to the BD editor by the 27th or 28th of each month.  Bob Rothschilds agreed to collect articles for this first time.  Articles to be submitted for the Dec mailing are: 1.Santa boat, 2.Dick Veldhuis’ passing, 3.Adopt-A-Christmas Family through the Catholic Community Services (Janie Edelman-chair), 4. Thank you to participants in Election Forum, 5. Ask for volunteers to monitor Lake Sawyer’s water quality.
  • Board members who volunteered to help on the Santa Boat on Dec 16 starting at 4:30 are Robert, Julie and Doug, Annette.  Part of the responsibilities include sorting ahead of time the gifts to be passed out to children around the lake as well as assisting Santa with passing them out along with candy.
  • The MV Ballet contract was reviewed.  Steve is to contact Dave Peters, an attorney and past club president who wrote up the original contract, to discuss any adjustments that need to be made in the wording.  A motion was made by Bob Rothschilds to finalize the contract and negotiate with Claudette for the coming year. It was seconded and passed.
  • Bob Rothschilds presented a short update on his work in monitoring the lake’s condition.  Lately, he has been working with Jason Paulsen from BD to find out who has been doing the work.  There is a discrepancy as to who is responsible, the city, county or state.  At this time, nothing is being done to monitor the water quality.  Bob suggested it needs to be an ongoing process to be done over a long period of time.  A credible local laboratory, AquaTest, is to be used for initial tests.  The same tests as has been done in the past will be done.  Ten sites, four times a year, will be monitored.  These sites will include inflow and outflow sites plus two storm events will be evaluated.  These six samples a year will cost the city $5000.  Bob feels this is a minimal amount to be done.  It is a modest plan--it is a start.  The first test will be done by Jason Paulsen and the city utility employees to gain the first quarterly sampling.
  • Next quarter volunteers will be working with the city workers to collect data and eventually the work will be done only by volunteers.   Bob hopes to use future grants to pay for the testing.  He plans to produce an annual report for the public to view.  The data can be compared to findings from 1989 to now.
New Business
  • Lori F was granted use of the clubhouse for a Fire Dept. Party on Dec 20.
  • The subject of free usage of the clubhouse for board members was brought up.  A motion was made by Julie Geiger to allow board members, clubhouse manager, newsletter editor, and webmaster one free usage of the clubhouse during his/her service.  It must be used during that year of usage or lose it.  Also, the usage must work around the MV Ballet schedule or any other paid usage.  The motion was seconded and passed.  This change needs to be written into the bylaws as an amendment.  Action item: Julie will look up the process for an amendment.
Respectfully Submitted,

Annette Thompson - Acting Secretary
