                                            ADOPT-A-ROAD

The next Adopt-A-Road cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 1999 @ 9:30 a.m. This is a great way to do something positive for your community. Itâs also a great way to show your children that community matters! In the past, kids have received school credit for community service and/or environmental projects. Just stop by the Lake Sawyer Community Center that morning to pick up your gloves, bags and safety vests. If you are unable to help that day, just give Kathy Davis a call at 360-886-1499. She can assign you a piece of road to clean up at some later time that weekend. New and old faces welcome!!!!!

                                      SUMMER SHORELINE PARTIES

The current board is focusing on getting the Lake Sawyer "social" life in gear. Many of us have neighbors weâve never met and as we all are aware, when we know our neighbors we have a much stronger sense of community.

To help achieve that goal, the Board is planning two summer "Shoreline" parties. These will be sort of "block" party/open houses (everyone on the Lake is invited). The first of the open house style parties will be in August at the home of Janie and Bob Edelman. The second will be in September at the home of David and Noreen Peters.

You are invited to come by land or by sea. All you need to do is bring a dish to share and boat on over. We will provide more specific details in the upcoming 4th of July Special Edition. "Croquet anyone?"

                                         1999 DUES REMINDER

Just a reminder that many of you have not yet paid your 1999 dues. These dues help keep the Community Club running, as well as entitle you to vote for Board members at the annual meeting and any other pertinent matters requiring a vote. Dues are $20 a year. There is a coupon attached to this newsletter which you can use to pay your 1999 dues, and to make your fireworks contributions. If you can make your fireworks contribution by mail, it will save our weary but willing volunteers from having to knock on so many doors!

                                       MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD

Your new board has now met 3 times and is pleased to be carrying on the good work done by past boards. Since we have a number of new faces on the board, we have been revisiting the clubâs mission and would like to report to you our goals and plans for the next year.

A primary goal continues to be to do what we can to make sure that we have a clean, safe lake for our enjoyment. In that regard, we are fortunate to have three past presidents still working in our interest. Mike Cline is now a member of the Black Diamond City Council. Our congratulations to Mike.  We know that the interests of our city and our lake are in good hands with him. Hopefully, another Lake Sawyer resident will join him on the council in the near future. Mark Davis and Bob Rothschilds currently comprise the Water Quality Committee. They have been hard at work monitoring development that has the potential to degrade our water quality, dealing with the various governmental bodies that make decisions that impact Lake Sawyer, and otherwise looking out for Lake Sawyer. They could use help! If you would like to assist in this very important work, please contact Mark at 886-1499 or Bob at 886-2872.

Another important goal is to preserve and even improve the sense of community we have as residents of Lake Sawyer. Many of us who are relative newcomers were attracted to the lake, at least in part, by the small town, neighborly feel of our community. This sense is particularly evident during the club activities surrounding the 4th of July and other holidays. From the stories we have heard from "old-timers," this feeling of community was even stronger in the past. As we face the inevitable growth of our region, we want to make sure that we do not let our "small-town" community become just another suburb that happens to be on a lake.

One effort the board has undertaken is to institute a Welcome Wagon Committee to greet new residents of our lake. The committee will welcome these newcomers in person with a package of information about our lake and our city. More important than the written materials will be the personal touch of the neighbors themselves in making this contact. If you are interested in being on this Committee, please contact Sue Waller Fish, or another board member. In general, we want to get more people involved in the workings of our club on an ongoing basis.

Another effort to generate more community spirit is our plan to have Summer Shoreline Parties (see article above). Letâs get to know each other! Other ideas to help us to get to know each other better are welcome. If you have an idea, please contact a board member.

We would also like to thank Doug Geiger for agreeing to take over maintenance of our web-site. This is an important tool for keeping in touch with whatâs going on. If you have something you think should be included on our site, please contact Doug at 886-2834. We would also like to thank Terry Fahey and Kevin Myette for their great work in getting the site up and running and maintaining it to date. Itâs a great siteöcheck it out if you havenât yet at www.lakesawyer.com.

Board meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:45p.m., at the Clubhouse. Everybody is welcome! It is your club; stop by and give us your thoughts.

                                      NEW BOATING REGULATIONS

As forecast at our Annual Meeting, the City of Black Diamond has passed new boating regulations. If you would like a copy, contact a board member. The basic rules of operation and hours remain the same. The changes were designed to give our officers better tools to enforce safe operation of all watercrafts.

                                           LSCC WORK PARTY

If you have driven by the Community Club Hall lately, you know that it is in need of some weeding, pruning, etc. A work party for this purpose is schedule for Saturday, June 5, 1999, at 9:00 a.m.  Bring your garden gloves, weed and pruning tools and join the beautification project. It shouldnât take too long and any amount of time you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Once again, another great way to meet some of your neighbors and to do something proactive for your community.

                              MEMBERSHIP FORM/July 4th Contribution
