6TH ANNUAL FUN RUN, BIKE, WALK AROUND THE LAKE
This particular event has grown in size with every year. It is a great time no matter your abilities. It has something for everyone. The course is 5.2 miles. Early registration is encouraged. Please call JEFF and CHERI MERRILL at 886-0238 to register. Please note that this event is being held the weekend before the 4th of July - so donât miss it. We go forward rain or shine (and we all know what that means).
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Check-in and same day registration is at 9:30 a.m. at the boat launch. The race will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Walkers are to begin first, with runners and bikers beginning one-half hour later, at 10:30 a.m. Bicyclists must adhere to the rules of the road and must wear helmets. Participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver at check-in and a parent must sign for minors. If you donât want to run, walk or bike, how about volunteering to man (or woman) a water station, help direct traffic, or help at the start or finish lines? Please call the MERRILLS if you wish to help.

NOTE: There will be Lake Sawyer T-shirts and sweatshirts available for sale at this yearâs run/walk, etc.

     TEEN VOLLEYBALL

Players must be between the ages of 11 and 16 to participate in this event. Teams of 6 will be accepted. If you donât have a team but still wish to play, call ANNETTE GIACOMAZZI at 886-2219 and she will find a team for you. The competition is divided by which side of lake you reside, East or West. When you register, please let us know if you are playing for the East or West side. We will also need the names of everyone on your team. Two-thirds of the players on a team must be Lake residents. This event will be held at GEIGERSâ PARK, 29837 - 232nd Avenue S.E. If your team would like to schedule some practice time prior to the competition, again please call ANNETTE GIACOMAZZI at the number noted above to arrange a time.

SUNDAY, JULY 4

     8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
     WATER SKI COMPETITION

The 6-buoy slalom course is set up at the south end of the lake. Anyone interested in some friendly competition should meet there no later than 7:45 a.m. on the rafts that will be set up near the course. A $5 entry fee will be taken at check-in the morning of the competition.  Pre-registration is encouraged. Please call BOB ROTHCHILDS at 886-2872. Spectators are welcome, but PLEASE, NO WAKE. The water must be kept as "flat" as possible. Lake Sawyer obtains a special permit for this event which allows only the two boats towing the skiers in this event to exceed the normal 8 mph speed limit usually enforced during these hours. Any other boats exceeding that limit will be ticketed. Black Diamond Marine Patrol will be on duty during the competition to ensure everyoneâs safety.

     3:20 p.m.
     PADDLEBOAT & CANOE/KAYAK RACE

Two separate races will be held: (1) paddleboats; and (2) canoes and kayaks. You may enter as an individual or as a team. Racers should meet between the two big islands in front of Sunrise Resort approximately 10 minutes prior to the starting gun. No need to preregister.  Call FRANK and JEAN GARDINER (886-1406) for more information. If you donât plan to participate, but have a vessel you might be willing to lend, please call Jean or Frank.

     3:30 p.m.
     SAILBOAT RACE

As you may recall, DICK VELDHUIS threatened to give up on this event if the winds and weather didnât cooperate. However, we were able to convince him to try at least one more year. Catamarans, sailboards and sailboats are welcome to enter in this event. Trophies will be awarded for the three classes of monohulls, two classes of catamarans, and sailboards. Racers should meet in front of the large island on the east side of the lake to pick up the race circular. Call DICK VELDHUIS at 886-1790.

     5:00 p.m.
     BOAT PARADE

"Millennium Memories" will be the theme of this this yearâs boat parade. We canât wait to see what you competitors will come up with.  Every boat who participates in the parade will receive a little something, and prizes will be given for the best decorated boats. Join the fun.   This is a great event for the whole lake to enjoy (participants and spectators alike). The judges will be the lucky folks spending the 4th of
July at the ROHRBACH residence. Uncle Sam (a/k/a Sam Kerley) will lead the parade. All boats should meet approximately 10 minutes before the start time at the ROHRBACHSâ dock (east shore, middle). Uncle Sam will be judging best decorated yard and will award a prize following the parade. Call POLLY ROHRBACH (253-630-0803) if you have any questions.

     10:00 p.m.
     FIREWORKS EXTRAVANGANZA!!!!!!

Always the highlight of our festivities! This year BOB and JANIE EDELMAN will be our bombardiers. We appreciate their taking on this daunting task. The display will be as close to the middle of the Lake as possible, but may be a bit south of last yearâs display. We are trying to optimize viewing for the entire Lake. Expect one of our happy volunteers to stop by your home to get your fireworks donations.  If you havenât seen anyone yet and would like to be sure your donation gets in on time, please call JANIE EDELMAN at 886-7166. We will also have a donation jar at the LAKE SAWYER STORE. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their cooperation in letting us use their store as a donation site. Remember that if you plan to view the fireworks from a boat you must stay 400 feet from the fireworks launch raft. Black Diamond Marine Patrol will be on duty during the event and will send any vessels back to their docks who are not displaying proper lights, correct number and style of lifevests, or those that are overloaded.

     10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
     KIDSâ & ADULTSâ FISHING DERBY

Kids 14 years and younger - bring your prize winning fish to the dock of DAN HUCKE (886-2626), second house in the boot on the north side. His dock will be marked with a fish flag. Anyone older that 14 will be in the "adult" category. Maybe you all can catch the one that got away!"

     12:00 p.m.
     ADULT VOLLEYBALL

Preregister your team by July 3 to guarantee a spot. Call DOUG or JULIE GEIGER (886-2834). Once again, we will be registering teams of six, but if you donât have a team and want to play, Doug and Julie will find a team for you. The competition will be East and West, so when you register you will need to let them know which side of the lake you are on. Two-thirds of the members of a team must be Lake residents. The event takes place at GEIGERSâ PARK, 29837 - 232nd Avenue S.E. You can contact DOUG and JULIE to set up a practice time if you want (or perhaps, need) one. Everyone is welcome to cheer on your favorite team.
