Please join The Lake Sawyer Community Club in its efforts to redesign our ever so popular Fun Run t-shirt Logo. Development of the new Logo is underway and we are looking for your creative ideas.

Submit your design on an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of white paper with one color. We ask that designs do not include the year. Submit designs to a board member before April 30th and judging will be at the next scheduled board meeting. (You can also mail them to the address at the left.)

Spring Work Party and
Road Clean Up

The Spring Cleanup gets underway Saturday May 5th at 9:00 at the Lake Sawyer Community Clubhouse. Ted at the Lake Sawyer Grocery will provide morning coffee, water and doughnuts.

Holly Nichols is organizing the road cleanup portion of the morning and Steve Frank will organize the work party at the Clubhouse. He asks that you bring gloves, rakes, shovels, pruners and enthusiasm.

The honey do list  includes: Clean roof and gutters, Weed and rake flower beds, Prunes trees and shrubs, fill parking lot pot holes, fix gutter drainage ,remove yard debris. The cleanup should only take a couple of hours to complete with a good turnout. Please come and give a helping hand and meet some of your neighbors on the lake!!

New Regulations Imposed on Community Club

Last year the LSCC received notice from Covington Water District that we would be required to install a Reduced Pressure Backflow Assembly (RPBA) for protection against cross contamination of the Districts’ water supply. The RPBA provides the district with the highest level of protection available on the market. Covington Water District has required this particular device at the club house based on the application and the District’s hazard assessment.

In January, the LSCC board took this request to the Covington Water District board on appeal. We based the appeal on our non-commercial use, low use, and the fact that there is no auxiliary water supply on the premises. Our appeal to reverse the decision was unsuccessful.

In February, the RPBA was installed, inspected, and certified. An electrical circuit was installed to prevent the above ground unit from freezing in the winter months. All construction was finished and the cost to the LSCC was nearly $2600. The unit will require monitoring throughout the year and a yearly certified inspection to meet the requirements of Covington Water District.

Shoreline Master Program and Restoration Plan

On Thursday, May 31, 2012, 4PM in the Council Chambers the City Council will hold a workshop to get introduced to and to begin deliberations on this very important document. Though public comment may not be permitted at this workshop, this is a perfect opportunity to get involved and informed. There will be a public hearing also, but no specific date or time has been decided as yet. We will publish that information as soon as it becomes available.

The updated documents are available on the City's website: Click here.

To our surprise, LSCC has been named in multiple places within the document. Although the LSCC board will only be addressing matters that pertain to the club, we encourage all waterfront residents on Lake Sawyer to review the documents and attend this workshop if possible. The finished document will have significant impact on how we live and what we will be able to do with our properties.

The proposed Master Program and supporting documents are available for review on the City’s website. Copies are also available for review at the Black Diamond Community Development Department, 24301 Roberts Drive, during normal business hours. For further information, contact Aaron Nix, Natural Resources/Parks Director, (360) 886-5700 or anix@ci.blackdiamond.wa.us.

Fireworks Budget and Membership Goals

Membership is at 119 generating $5590. With over 300 homes on the lake LSCC is setting a goal for the year of 200 members!

We have a $13,000 contract for this year Fireworks display. That’s a $1,000 increase over last year. The current number of contributors is 91 for a total of $8485. The good news is we have a contract in place with Homeland Fireworks.

The bad news is their cost for the fireworks from China are up 38% over last year. With the cost of fireworks going up, we need to really reach out to everyone to make a contribution to improve our July 4th celebration.
